Jamberoo Community Growers – Composting Talk

This is really the April JCG meeting, brought forward a week due to Easter and school holidays.

The topic this month will be a talk on backyard composting by Penny Hoswell. Penny works for Wollongong Council and has been conducting composting workshops under the Sustainable Illawarra programme. She is a master composter, with a lot of info and experience to share with us. If you want to learn how to make a compost heap that doesn’t smell but breaks down quickly into a rich soil amendment, come along!

For future reference, we’re planning to hold the following talks in coming months:

May 2: Crop rotation

June 6: Over-wintering garden beds

July 4: Companion planting

August 1: Organic Crop Protectants will talk about organic pest control, with special attention to preventing fruit fly

We are also planning to hold a movie night sometime in April – more details to come!

Don’t forget to bring along some produce, cuttings, flowers, seedlings or anything else for the swap table. The Young Growers will also be selling punnets of pea seedlings they planted at the last meeting.
