December First Quarter Moon

12 December 2008 No Comment

According to the information I found in various places on the net, the first quarter moon is the quarter for strong leaf growth.

According to Aussie Organic Gardening, during the leadup to the December full moon in the Illawarra region (a temperate climate):

Before the Full Moon, cabbage, lettuce, silver beet, dill, and sunflower can be sown direct. Leek and spring onions can be sown as well as a green manure crop of adzuki bean, cowpea, mung bean, pigeon pea, soy bean, millet, Japanese millet, or sorghum.

I’ll also probably plant some beans and peas, and maybe some more tomatoes.

Update: I only got beans planted, but they’re doing well so far. I planted some saved seeds from last year’s purple king beans, so we’ll see how they do.
