The First Quarter lunar phase for April 2009 runs from 3 Apr – 10 Apr. The full moon on April 10 is known traditionally as the “Egg Moon”.

The First Quarter is the time for planting above-ground annual fruiting crops, green manures and flowering annuals in the traditional [lunar planting calendar](http://green-change.com/2008/12/11/what-is-lunar-planting/).

For information on what to do in the various climate zones around Australia in the First Quarter phase, check out Aussie Organic Gardening’s [What To Plant In April](http://aussieorganicgardening.com/blog) entry.

For dates of future moon phases, refer to the very handy [TimeAndDate.com Calendar](http://www.timeanddate.com/calendar/).

  1. Hi Darren,
Thank you so much for your comment on our site today – about eating one vegetarian meal a week – that’s a fabulous suggestion.

I’m thrilled to see you planting about lunar gardening. I’ve started using it myself and I’m intrigued to see where it will take us 🙂

How long have you been gardening in this way? Have you noticed a big difference?

    best wishes

    • @Mrs Green: Hi! You sure noticed my post and visited here quickly!

I’ve been following the lunar planting strategy since late last year. It’s hard to tell what difference it’s making, since I haven’t planted anything out of cycle for comparison. I am finding that it really helps with my organisation, though. It also makes you more aware of the natural world – lunar cycles, seasons, etc. I like having a rhythm to my gardening patterns.
