Kiama Show 2010

I spent the day on Saturday manning a sustainability stall at the [Kiama Show](http://www.kiamashow.com.au/), and really enjoyed getting to talk to the many people that stopped by. I was wearing a few hats on the day – representing [Jamberoo Community Growers](http://sites.google.com/site/jamberoocommunitygrowers/), [Kiama FutureCare](http://kiamafuturecare.org/) and [Jamberoo FutureCare](http://jamberoofuturecare.org/).

The three groups pooled our resources and had information on all the various government rebates and incentives for improving the sustainability of households. We also had handouts and giveaways from Kiama Council.

The Kiama FutureCare group organised for some local businesses to have stalls – there were [low-energy-use computers](http://ironstone.com.au/), wind generators, local organic vegetables, [aquaponics kits](http://www.freshbynature.com.au/), and ceiling insulation options on display, as well as [Business Treading Lightly](http://www.btl.net.au/).

Kiama’s deputy mayor, Ben van der Wijngaart, helped out on the day as well with his [Vectrix electric motorbike](http://vectrix.com) on display. That generated a lot of interest – many people didn’t realise that such things were already in production and were practical right now.

I enjoyed checking out the produce displays in the pavilion too. Who knows, perhaps next year I might be organised enough to enter something!

    Hi Darren,

Lovely to see a local blogger, although I have been quite lax lately, hoping to get back into it this year, have some stuff to show off. Just wondering if you’d be interested in being a guest speaker at Nowra Permaculture group sometime this year to talk about your journey to sustainability. We meet on the last monday of the month at shoalhaven sustainable house.

Hope to hear from you soon

    Hannah

@Hannah: Likewise! I love find other local bloggers too – I’ve added you to my RSS reader. I would be happy to come down and talk sometime. I’d also like to potentially get some of your people up to speak at Jamberoo Community Growers sometime, too! I’ll email you separately to organise.
